Makiya Sushi & Bonbori Japanese Restaurant @ Setiawalk Puchong

Snacking on sushi at two Setiawalk restaurants that offer fairly interesting options.

First up, Makiya Sushi, which serves sushi topped with both unagi & omelet (RM3.50+) ...

... or simply with roe-loaded shishamo (RM3.20+ per piece).

(Imitation) crab leg wrapped with salmon sashimi (RM12+)? Count us in.

Avocado sushi (RM1.50+), lovely-looking but could be riper for success.

Soft-shell crab inari sushi (RM3+). Works well, most of these combinations.

Possibly the cheapest sea urchin sushi in town, only RM6+ per uni-loaded piece (!). Unfortunately though, in this case, customers receive what they pay for. Slightly too stinky.

All in all, acceptable for a budget-conscious outing; we hope Makiya's strategy succeeds.

More for mid-range spending, Bonbori, also a recent entry to the Setiawalk complex.

Swordfish sushi (RM8.90+ for two pieces), suitably fresh & fleshy.

Pink prawns, perpetually a pleasure. Not a ripoff for RM8.90+.

Akagai sushi (RM9.90+). Toppings are OK, but the rice might border on bland.

Smoked duck sushi (RM6.90+). A bit supermarket-ish, the processed meat.

Coming full circle with more sea urchin sushi, this time costing RM15 per piece, exactly 2.5 times what Makiya's version costs, but the truth is, it definitely is doubly pleasurable, for folks willing to pay the price.

Sake, hot & cold. We're leaning toward the latter these days.
